Further investigations can be carried out as appropriate:

  • Refraction testing
  • Ultrasonography
  • Electroretinography

We are always happy to examine ocular lesions that have been identified at pre-purchase examination and give an opinion on their significance. Ocular lesions identified at PPE can often present problems for the examining veterinary surgeon since the duration, rate of progression and clinical significance of the lesions is often not easily determined on a simple ophthalmoscopic examination.

However, in the majority of cases we are able to give an opinion on the likely significance of an ocular lesion now and in the future. We are always pleased to discuss such cases with yourselves or examine the horse on behalf of the purchaser or vendor. You may find our factsheet on Equine Ocular PPE a useful reminder of common conditions and their significance.
