A dachshund called Margo has amazed vets here at Veterinary Vision after they discovered a ‘smiley face’ emoji on her retina.
The five-year-old family pet had been referred to us here in Penrith, Cumbria for expert treatment of a corneal ulcer and fungal infection.
Our clinical director Chris Dixon took charge of the case and was stunned to see the emoji-style image as he examined Margo’s eye.
Chris said: “I was assessing Margo’s eye and was very surprised to see an emoji smiling back at me.
“It was actually an unusual pattern within the retina but it looked just like the famous smiling face emoji.
“I had never seen anything like it before so Margo is definitely a unique case. and the good news is that it does not appear to have affected her vision at all.”
Chris operated to repair the severe ulcer with a corneal graft and Margo’s since gone on to make a full recovery.
He added: “Surgery went very well and thankfully the lesions of the ulcer have not impacted on her eyesight and there has been no evidence of any wider progression.
“Incredibly, the smiling face is still there and has not changed throughout 2021 so I think we can safely say that Margo is a very happy dog, both inside and out!”
